Refills are almost impossible to find locally. Refills from Sodastream are expensive, with ever-increasing prices and shipping charges, and super slow. It took them 12 days to ship a bottle. UPS did their part. Sodastream really dragged their feet on getting it ready for UPS.
Their claim of 130 liters of soda from one charger is laughable. We get about 80. Do the numbers and compare to buying soda water.

I am a plain seltzer water drinker. Some flavoring is a plus, but not too sweet. I just like the fizzy "bite" of carbonated water. Following the directions and using a 3 buzz carbonation level, which SodaStream considers average carbonation, I was able to get 41 liters out of 1 co2 cartridge. I have been impressed with the quality of the carbonation. If there is one negative, it would be that I dont feel the water holds its carbonation as long as store bought soda. Two days maximim perhaps. Not a problem if you just make a liter at a time. I cant explain it, it just goes flat faster. Otherwise a great product.

I'm a big fan of sparking water. Some time ago, I swore off overseas brands as being environmentally unfriendly. So, this was an easy and logical next step. My only concern was how difficult it would be to use and how the result would taste. To make a bottle of sparkling water, just fill one of their bottles in the fridge overnight (I usually keep a spare ready to go), hook it up to the machine, press the button on time about 5+ times (you get to control the amount of fiz --- I usually do 6 presses after the first loud buzz), and then you add flavoring. I use the "essences" which make it like Calistoga and you just add 1/4 teaspoon. I love not having to tote lots of bottles home from the store. Even better, I love not having the waste. I always have sparking water. Some folks commented that the bottles don't hold the fizz, but that is exactly the opposite of my experience. I left the bottle in the fridge at about 3/4 full for four days when I went on a trip. I fully expected it to be flat, but it wasn't at all. You definitely want to keep the lid on. It also does seem to go flat when there's only a little bit left, but I think that's pretty normal. I like the small size because I almost always drink it before it goes flat.
Much to my surprise, my husband really loved this machine too. He's a diet soda drinker, and he really likes the diet ginger ale and many other flavors. The only problem is that we had to purchase 2 more bottles so that we each have a reserve chilling in the fridge! But it's nice not to have all the cartons of soda lying around.
You can swap the CO2 cartridges at BB&B, which is actually where I purchased the machine as well. You an also get lots of different drink flavors there.
