I travel 2-3 times per month, and was in need of a new laptop bag. I was looking for a simple, business friendly design that made the security lines a bit easier to handle.

This bag fit the bill very well. The bag has a simple style that will not scream IT geek in the board room, yet is very functional. It is on the smaller side, so not for large laptops or people who like to pack a lot of materials in their bag. However, it easily fits my laptop, planner, cords, iPad, phones, paper, etc. I have had zero issues at security, just unzip the bag and lay it flat.

Only small downside is the handle and straps seem a bit lightweight compared to others, but to date I have had no issues with them. The width of the strap does tend to create a lot of wrinkles on the shoulders of dress shirts though. Probably not an issue for most, but if your work requires business formal, something to consider.

I have had this bag for almost six months. I was able to pass my computer through in the bag at the Portland, Oregon airport and the Salt Lake City airport with no problem. I also passed it through security at the Multnomah County Courthouse. The bag is roomy, with plenty of room in the main compartment for 3" ring binder and a couple of books. I love the little pocket for the computer cord. The front zipper pocket holds my board pass. All in all, it's a very convenient, well organized bag! You would not want to pack it heavy and then walk very far, because there is not waist or hip belt. It works find for the kind of walking I do in the airport and a few blocks in town from the bus stop or parking lot to wherever I'm going.

The good outer build quality of this bag makes its performance disappointing. The color, material and portability of this case are solid, but it falls short in laptop protection.

(This review is for the non-wheeled 17-inch version (ZLCS-117).)

There's no strap or even pocket to help secure the laptop inside the laptop-holding area of the case. The laptop holding area is, well..... just an 'area' in which to slip the laptop. With no further securing of the computer, it can readily slip or drop out of the bag if the zipper is left open and the bag turns upside down or sideways, etc.

The larger problem from our POV is that there's no cushioning or protection *at all* around the zipper area. This means that 3 out of the 4 side edges of the laptop body have *no cushioning* to protect them from impact or shock. Rather, the laptop edges themselves will absorb any shock from the outside, with solely the thin material of the zipper--and no cushioning!--between the computer and the outside world.

The case's attractive build and form aren't enough to compensate for its inadequate protection of a possibly expensive computer.

This bag is being returned, and I've already ordered (and received) the 17" SOLO Sterling Airport Security-Friendly Laptop Case (CLA314-4) in its stead. So far, I'm satisfied with the SOLO, which combines good form and *very* solid laptop protection, using a velcro strap, additional inner insulating pocket and full protection along all of the computer's sides and edges.

I can only advise that Case Logic redesign its 17" laptop case so that it protects the laptop. (Aside from that (!) the case actually seems well-designed and attractive in terms of form!)
